About | George Gordon, working as Fatov Gorlitski, is a self-taught artist born and based in Boston. He currently prefers digital and acrylic media.

Inspired by his family's business trading in gargoyles and grotesques, Gorlitski's work uses a colorful and cartoonish visual language to explore themes of egotism, self-destruction, and salvation. This contrast encourages viewers to consider otherwise daunting subject matter through a playful and approachable lens.

In addition to traditional art media, Gorlitski's practice involves searching for unconventional ways to distribute his work. His series of trading cards push this concept through the production of full exhibitions of work as editioned booster packs. By embracing the physical form of a favorite childhood collectible, these packs of cards increasingly blur the line between play and serious contemplation.

Waking Up From A 2 Year Nap is part of a recent series depicting mythological stories that don't actually exist, playing around with abstracted motifs from myths, religion, and fairytales. Viewers are presented with figures that may feel visually familiar, but come from intentionally nonexistent source material. By offering a guarantee that there's no context to be missed out on, no literary or cultural barrier to entry, he seeks to allow the viewer full authority of interpretation. These works are only truly complete once the audience has invented the tale they come from.
