The faces in "Petrushka" are comically influenced to reflect their Russian Fair setting and puppet origin, whereas Those in "My Great-Grandfather's Woods" are painted in somber monotones befitting their horrific fate and overall overall historic circumstance. Portraits of the emigres in "All Are Welcome Here" are meant to accurately depict persons who have arrived from several different countries and cultures. Each painting deals with questions regarding the human condition and behavior. In "Petrushka," we are confronted with human emotions of love, jealousy, and rage. Both "My Great-Grandfather's Woods" and "All Are Welcome Here," each in its own way, attempt to confront the problems created when humans put each other in either the "accepted" category or the "unacceptable OTHER" category.
