About | Amelia White (b. 1995) is an artist from the greater Boston, MA area. She studied at RISD in Providence, RI and graduated with a BFA in Illustration in 2017. Her work addresses topics like self harm, the autistic experience, and the gaze of gendered bodies in modern society. Their work has been showcased online & in-person at Dorchester Art Project, Boston Compass, Manchester School of Art in the UK, Public Art Gallery, Vacant Museum, Visionary Art Collective and Katzman Contemporary, to name a few. Amelia also self-publishes and juries a zine called To All The Men Who’ve Preyed On Me Before.

Amelia White, Hotter Than the Devil's Dick (Summer '22) was heavily inspired by Sarah Goodridge's self-portrait Beauty Revealed. Goodridge sent this particular miniature painting, enclosed in a leather case that could be closed with two clasps, to the recently widowed United States senator Daniel Webster in 1828. It's basically a 19th century "sext" which White thought was so great and bad ass. In comparison, Dr. Chelsea Nichols, pulled from her blog The Museum of Ridiculously Interesting Things, writes that "Goodridge’s self-portrait may not have been a sexual offering but ‘the confidence and passions of a woman way ahead of her time, who has proudly embraced the eroticism of her body and role as cherished mistress," another perspective White also wanted to channel in her piece. In addition to that inspiration, she hopes to convey specific themes like society's gaze on the female form & the intersection of being “plus-size” and the effects of global warming on the human body.
