About | After art school at Carnegie Mellon and the Cleveland Institute of Art, Ann Miller retired too early, before really having a job. She was trying to advance my painting skill and vision. Once children came painting became a very intermittent practice. Once they were grown and off on their own Ann could once more get back to painting. About this time she also became interested in eBay. She lived in a town that had fantastic thrift stores and few people with computers. A perfect situation. She made nice mad money, but more importantly Miller realized how much she loved certain objects, not only the objects but how the photos of them looked on the computer. Hence her interest in painting vintage toys. The only toy she ever really remember was a stuffed Dumbo, and a baby doll that she really, really wanted to come alive. It did much later in the form of the two darling daughters that eventually came her way. Toy playing is wishful play, getting away from the here and now and living in an intense fantasy world. Which is pretty much what painting is about.
