About | Barb Cone’s father majored in archaeology at the University of Arizona and was an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist. The two of them spent many hours in the California and Arizona deserts looking for Native American artifacts. They had many of these artifacts carefully preserved in their home, later to be donated to the Museum of Man in San Diego. Cone has retained an interest in archaeology, creating works featuring pictographs and petroglyphs and figural works of spirit figures. She has visited many sites, including Bandelier and Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. The Archaeologica series was inspired by drone views of archaeological digs. She likes to suggest the layering of civilizations in these pieces.

Cone is the winner of the 2016 La Vendeenne Award for Artistry, International Encaustic Artists. She is also a co-founder of MassWax, New England chapter of International Encaustic Artists.
