About |Barbara Trachtenberg is a painter who also works in mixed media, collage and assemblage. Working throughout 2020-2021 in her home studio during COVID-19, she explored social and political issues of the year by painting over painting—layers of recent history re-creating its historical self in impasto. Her statement is sardonic, direct, provocative—and sometimes playful and lyrical. She works on multiple pieces randomly. The results are abstract narrative work in which figures emerge with visceral energy in bold colors. Process is key as marks, texture and brushstrokes tell the story of the piece.
