About | Stephanie Wenzel’s work seeks to understand belonging, acceptance, presentation, illusion, assertion, confidence, doubt, exploration, and progress. How and when do we assert boundaries? When do we make space for dialogue? Bringing together different forms, colors, techniques, and materials helps create a language by which a visual narrative emerges static and rigid, or fluid and soft. The tactile exploration helps her investigate what cognitive thought alone cannot capture. Navigating through painful life experiences provided her access to the emotional content that she needed to pour into a sculptural practice. Wenzel asks herself, “Why do I want to put my emotions on display in a public place?” Ultimately, being vulnerable with each other is when the magic of understanding reveals itself.
